It is considered the oldest public garden in Bucharest .Located in the center of the city, has an area of about 16 hectares and is bordered by two important arteries: Regina Elisabeta Boulevard and Schitu Măgureanu Boulevard. In the south-east part of the garden is Gheorghe Lazar National College .

Cișmigiu Garden is arranged in the English parks and has several entrances: two through Regina Elisabeta Boulevard, two through Schitu Magureanu Boulevard, one through Știrbei Voda Street.

In 1779 , the ruler of the Romanian Country , Alexandru Ipsilanti ordered the construction of two docks in Bucharest. The first plume was made on the site where the garden from stradatirbei Voda street is today.

After that in the year of 1830 , General Pavel Kiseleff ordered the drying of the pond and the transformation of the land into a public garden. This happened only during the reign of Gheorghe Bibescu , in 1847 , when the landscape gardener Wilhelm Mayer , the former director of the Imperial Gardens in Vienna , was called and charged with transforming the unhealthy land into a beautiful garden. Mayer was helped by gardener Franz Harer.

After the abdication of Gh. Bibescu in 1848 , the new ruler, Barbu irtirbei , decides to dig a pond and a connecting channel with Dambovița . The most important year for the transformation of the garden was 1852 . For the first time the fencing was made with grooves, a hundred of sofas (lintels) were fitted without supports, made of oak and long by a stalk.

In the winter of the year 1883 , the lake in the garden froze and ice competitions were organized. The town hall purchased a plot of land from the former garden of the Crețulescu family, increasing the area of the Cișmegiu garden by 15,000 square meters.
