Park Herastrau

The King Michael I Park of Romania  (formerly Carol II Park , National Park , Stalin IV Park and Herastrau Park  is a large park of Bucharest , located in the northern part of the city.

This beautiful park was built in 1936 on the shores of Lake Herastrau (74 ha). Its total area is 187 ha.  The lake in the center of the park is part of the anthropogenic lake chain of the Colentina River. The alley of the park that surrounds the lake has a length of 5.92 km.

Herastrau Park was declared a historical monument in the class of importance A!

In the park grows a unique dendrology , a variety of Japanese acacia with weeping branches and leaves stained with white.

Before 1930, the area on which today the park is located was a marshy area that was cleared during 1930-1935. On this occasion, the problem of arranging the entire surface remained free, also taking into account the fact that in the area already existed the Triumph Arch .
